Position Description: Cengage is on a mission to help students become more confident learners and move down the path towards lifelong success. As the Director of Marketing Strategy, you will play a critical role in helping bring this audacious goal to life. You will shape and execute high-impact strategic projects critical to the Marketing and Cengage's overall digital transformation. You will partner with other Marketing leaders to take on projects in all areas of marketing including product marketing, demand/lead generation, e-commerce, product launch models, and many more.  You will report into the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Marketing Strategy & Operations (a former BCG Principal), and will work closely with Marketers in all levels and teams, as well as a cross-functional network of strategy and operations colleagues. Collaborating with the best of the best, you will feel challenged and inspired to do breakthrough work. This is a high impact, high visibility role that is tasked with delivering step changes in performance.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Form a deep understanding of Cengage’s strategic goals and corporate strategy, to help shape and execute Marketing strategy and roadmap
  • Define, structure and execute operational and strategic initiatives by developing work plans, gathering and synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses and developing final recommendations
  • Drive recommendations through to implementation and results
  • Partner with Chief Marketing Officer and Marketing Senior Leadership Team to shape and execute strategic initiatives
  • Partner with other Marketing Strategy & Operations teams (namely, Marketing Analytics, Market Research, Marketing Operations) on key initiatives such as marketing ROI, customer journey analysis, and other critical projects)
  • Identify modern Marketing trends such as automation, account-based marketing, advanced segmentation and attribution models, and operationalize within Cengage Marketing organization
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the industry and competitive landscape
  • Lead cross-functional teams across Sales, Product, and Technology organizations
  • Communicate findings to senior management and to the broader organization

Skills You Will Need Here:

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

 

Required:

 

  • BA/BS degree with top-tier academic background; MBA a plus
  • Minimum of 4 years previous management consulting and/or strategy experience at a top tier consulting firm or equivalent experience at a technology, media, or education firm
  • Strategic mindset – be able to tell a story through analysis, develop innovative strategies and drive value add throughout each and every project
  • Ability to structure and execute quantitative and qualitative analysis and deliver data-driven insights
  • Demonstrated writing and verbal presentation skills enabling her/him to prepare and present information and recommendations to a diverse and often senior audience
  • Collaborative problem solving and working style to drive change through influence
  • Able to self-manage progress against milestones and deliverables with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
  • Experience managing analyst direct report(s)
  • Interest and/or experience in education, software, information services and/or publishing industries a plus
  • Travel expected (20%)
